Over seven days and six nights we combine world-class sea-kayaking and snorkeling with treks through rain-forests, visits to isolated villages, picnics on beaches, side-trips and surprises. We overnight in small, simple resorts, and spend one night as guests in a village. No camping! The beautiful marine environment and lush, tropical landscape of Kadavu are both the back-drops and the star attractions of the Kadavu Classic.
Day 1: Arrive to Kadavu
From Fiji's Nadi International Airport, the 45-minute Pacific Sun Airlines flight takes you to the remote and unspoiled island of Kadavu. From there it's a 70-minute scenic boat ride along the coast to Waisalima Beach Resort. Time for a sea-kayaking refresher course, and/or a swim /snorkel off the beach.
Day 2: Sea kayaking and Hiking
We have a great day trip planned: sea-kayaking along the coast and up into the mangroves at the head of Kavala Bay, then trekking into the rainforest for a refreshing swim under a towering waterfall, before returning to Waisalima Beach Resort for another night.
Day 3: Sea-kayaking and snorkeling
After breakfast the group will cross the channel to Ono Island by sea-kayak (or motor boat), then spend the day paddling, snorkeling, beach-combing and picnic-ing along the area’s sparsely-populated coastline. Return to Waisalima Beach Resort by motor boat.
Day 4: Sea-kayaking, snorkeling and village visit
Embark on 3-4 hours sea-kayaking along the island’s most remote coastline, through reef passages, across lagoons and past small islands, from Waisalima Beach Resort to Vacalea village, with a guided snorkeling trip to the Great Astrolabe Reef en-route. Another beach picnic, and a traditional Fijian welcome ceremony upon reaching the village.
Day 5: Hiking, sea-kayaking and snorkeling
The morning can be spent taking time to experience more of the villagers’ way-of-life, with the chance to learn traditional weaving, or to visit the local primary school. Other options include trekking to view gardens and birdlife in the forest, or sea kayaking and snorkeling out along the barrier reef. Your guides will give you the options. After lunch 2-3 hours sea-kayaking from Vacalea village brings you to Matava Resort.
Day 6: Sea-kayaking, snorkeling and a waterfall swim
The day starts with time to snorkel amongst the amazing coral off tiny Waya Island. From there we'll paddle 2 hours to a nearby village for a lunch, rest a little, then trek along a trail through the rainforest to a spectacular waterfall and swimming area. Back to Matava Resort by sea-kayak or motor-boat, and a final evening in Kadavu.
Day 7: Depart Kadavu
More snorkeling for those still interested, otherwise a sleepy morning. Another scenic boat-ride (1 hour) to Kadavu's airport, a farewell to the guides, then a 45 minute flight back to Nadi International Airport and onward travel plans.
